The Night of Music

WHEN: Sat, 6 June 2009, 06:00pm - 11:55pm

WHERE: 31 Shelley Street, Richmond 3121, Melbourne, AUSTRALIA (latitude 37° 48’ 41.97” S; longitude 144° 59’ 37.52" E )

Ondru was founded with the backyard bash – the Night of Music attended by over 100 people. The night began with the hovering rain that arrived on the scene to stain the beginning of Ondru, a Rising Movement of Arts & Literature. Holding the face in our damp hands, we waited through the birth of night and finally the heavens held her tears back and invited the stunning Emma & Rebekah Stuart to the stage. From Emma’s delightful voice, we were led to the delicious gourmet Greek food prepared by our own MasterChef Kon Karapanagiotidis.
We were then taken away by the solo tuba performance by the charming Alex Hurst. Beers from our event sponsor St Arnou were being drunk dry beneath the hanging saris. The DJ and sound specialist Julian LaBrooy kept us in the groove through the night with his funky tunes. We then followed our way back to Sudan by the mesmerising voice of Ajak Kwai, her voice had bloomed the lilies of our backyard that had remained dormant for a year.

BossBucho then began their alternative & folk rhythmic sensational stomp on the stage and those comforting on the antique benches lent to us by Kazari had no alternatives, but to turn their heels and shake their behinds on the paved yard. Then came the final act of Zac Lister & the Hard Rain, the astonishing performance led even the men in blue to commend their performance. Even more, they allowed the trio to play on for another 20 minutes.

What was merely an idea five weeks ago had turned to reality with the hearts of so many who had helped us shape the night. Our sincere thanks to each and everyone who supported us, helped beyond their means to make it all possible. You lent us a hand and touched our hearts. Ondru is born!
